About the OFD

The OFD is made up of:

The Oceanside Volunteer Fire Department is made up of 5 companies, and 4 active fire chiefs. Each company specializes in a unique area of fire and rescue services.

Oceanside Fire Department companies:

Hose 1 

Hose Company Number 1 is an Engine Company located on the west side of Oceanside and houses Engine 246 and Carrier 2462. Although their primary purpose is fire attack and suppression, we are also respond to other miscellaneous calls such as auto accidents and water rescues. Members of Hose Company are Rescue Swimmer Certified. Hose 1 is responsible for Marine 1 located at the Oceanside Marina and Marine 6, an inflatable zodiac which is towed behind Unit 2462. 


Hose 2 (South Side)

South Side Hose Company 2 is an Engine Company located on the south end of Oceanside and houses Engines 247 and 2472. South Side has the unique function of being the only foam unit in the department with Engine 2472, which carries foam onboard in addition to water and other firefighting equipment.  In addition to our foam truck, South Side is one of two companies in the OFD that carries a propane burn off kit, which can handle almost any propane emergency in Oceanside. 

Hose 3 (Terrace)

Terrace Hose & Chemical Company #3 is an Engine company located on the North end of Oceanside and houses engines 248 and 2482. While carrying out its role as an engine company, Terrace also trains in and responds to high-rise alarms as well as propane and other hazardous materials detection & mitigation. 

Engine 1 (Columbia)

Columbia Engine Co. #1 was Oceanside’s original engine company and is located in the center of Oceanside. Columbia houses Engines 243 and 249.  Columbia is the busiest engine company in town because of its centralized location. They are also one of two companies in town with a marine unit in quarters.  

Truck 1 (Salamander)

Salamander Truck 1 is the only Truck Company in the Oceanside Fire Department. Housed out of District Headquarters on the north side of town, Salamander houses Tower Ladder 244 and Arial Ladder 2442. Salamander specializes in Search, Rescue and Extrication. Some training highlights include auto accidents and unusual extrications, searching under active fire, and specialized rescues.
